Nigeria international Leon Balogun signed for Latics on a loan deal until the end of the 2019-20 season at the end of the January Transfer Window.
Capped 32 times by his country, Balogun moved to the DW Stadium from Brighton & Hove Albion, who he signed for in the summer of 2018.
Born in Berlin, Germany, Balogun qualifies for Nigeria through his father and he has represented the Super Eagles throughout his career.
His club career started in Germany with Hertha Berlin as a junior player, before he moved into senior football with Türkiyemspor Berlin
At the age of 20, Balogun moved to Hannover 96 and made his Bundesliga debut in April 2009 against Hamburg.
However, Balogun featured mainly for Hannover 96 II before moving to Werder Bremen in 2010, where he also featured mainly for the Development Team.
Spells with Fortuna Dusseldorf and Darmstadt 98 followed before a move to Mainz 05 in 2015 saw Balogun establish himself as a strong player in the Bundesliga.
In three seasons with Mainz, Balogun played over 50 Bundesliga matches before Brighton secured his services in May 2018.
With the Seagulls, Balogun competed for a defensive spot with Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk and former Latic Dan Burn.
In his debut campaign, he featured in eight Premier League matches, scoring his first goal for the club in a derby match against Crystal Palace in which the Seagulls won 3-1.
Following the record signing of Adam Webster, Balogun has seen his appearances limited to two Cup matches in 2019-20 and he moves to the DW looking for the opportunity to play more games.
