A central defender from the Isle of Man, Adam Long arrived at the DW Stadium from his hometown team St. George’s AFC in 2017. Long, who has been a regular for Latics’ U18 and U23 sides, helped the Academy to back-to-back Lancashire FA Youth Cup titles, as well as the EFL Youth Alliance, EFL Youth Alliance Cup and the Central League title. He made his Latics first team debut in the Checkatrade Trophy against Middlesbrough in October 2017, before becoming involved with the first team squad in the 2019/20 pre-season. Long then secured a loan move to National League side Notts County in February 2020 whom he helped The Magpies to finish in the play-off places by scoring an important winner in a 2-1 victory over AFC Fylde. He made his league debut for Latics in the 2-0 defeat at Ipswich Town, before being rewarded with a new contract at the start of 2021. Long scored his first Latics goal in the 2-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town in the Papa John's Trophy group stage tie at the DW Stadium in November 2021.
