Key Facts

  • Over 200 Career Appearances
  • Former Derby County youngster
  • Won Four EFL Promotions
Midfielder Matty Palmer joined Latics on loan from fellow Sky Bet League One side Swindon Town in September, joining initially until January 4 2021. In eight years in senior football, Palmer has racked up just under 200 EFL appearances after making his debut for Burton Albion as an 18-year-old in 2013. The Derby-born midfielder played over 150 times in all competitions for the Brewers before signing for Rotherham United during the 2017-18 season. Whilst with the Millers, Palmer – who had also had a loan spell with Oldham Athletic earlier in his career - spent time on loan at Bradford City before moving to Swindon after just two seasons at the New York Stadium. Palmer played just three times for Swindon before his loan move to Latics, with the COVID-19 outbreak curtailing the 2019-20 season and limiting his opportunities with the Robins, who won promotion from Sky Bet League Two.
