Jordan Cousins joined Latics ahead of the 2021/22 season after a spell with Stoke City in the Sky Bet Championship, where he featured over 40 times. The midfielder began his career with Charlton Athletic and broke into the first team in 2013 after progressing through their academy. The 27-year-old, who has represented England in four different age categories, made 136 appearances for the Addicks before moving to QPR in 2016 after Charlton's relegation to League One. Cousins then went on to spend three seasons with Rangers where he made 70 appearances and scored his only goal in a 4-3 defeat against Birmingham City in February 2019. After leaving QPR in the summer of 2019, Cousins decided to join Stoke City under manager Nathan Jones. He made his debut on the opening day of the 2019/20 season in a 2-1 defeat against his former club QPR. Cousins made 24 appearances in his debut campaign as he helped the Potters finish in 15th place. In the following season, Cousins was a consistent and reliable player for former Latics midfielder Michael O’Neill’s side as he made 21 appearances before leaving the Bet365 Stadium this summer.
After making his debut at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland, Cousins made his first league start against Wycombe Wanderers in August 2021. After making a strong start to the season, Cousins sadly spent a lengthy period on the sidelines, though he returned at the back end of the campaign to help steer Latics to the League One title.
