Jason Kerr joined Latics on a three-year deal on Transfer Deadline Day in 2021 following a seven-year stay with Scottish Premier League side, St Johnstone.
Kerr started his career at the Perth club in 2014, spending two seasons on loan at East Fife from 2015 to 2017, winning the Scottish League Two title in the 2015/16 campaign. He later moved to Scottish Championship side Queen of the South on loan until January '18, with the central defender being recalled on 14 January 2018.
Kerr made his debut appearance for St Johnston on 29 January 2018 in a Scottish Cup Fourth Round win against Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill. Impressing with his solid displays and immense leadership qualities, Kerr was named as St Johnston’s club captain ahead of the 2019/20 season following the departure of Joe Shaughnessy. The former Scotland U21 international captained the Saints to a historic League Cup and Scottish Cup double in 2020/21, with his form earning the defender recognition in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season.
Kerr, who has played over 200 senior games despite still being in the relative infancy of his career, joined Latics in the summer of 2021 to help add further strength to Leam Richardson’s defence. His debut season at the DW was certainly one to remember as his performances helped Latics to secure promotion to the Championship as champions of Sky Bet League One.
