Liverpool-born youngster Callum Lang progressed through Latics' academy and he helped fire the Club to safety against all of the odds last season.
Lang joined Latics at the age of 14 after being released by Liverpool and has progressed through the ranks of the academy.
After a successful season for the Under 18s in 2016-17, capped off by a superb hat-trick in the Central League Cup final, he won the Michael Millettt Award Award as the Under 18s Player of The Season.
A powerful, quick, and prolific striker at youth level, he made his mark following Paul Cook's appointment as Latics boss with goals in pre-season matches against Grimsby Town and Notts County.
Three cup appearances followed for Latics' first team before he moved out on loan to Morecambe in August 2017.
The youngster notched 10 goals in 31 appearances for the Globe Arena club and won the EFL Young Player of the Month award for December 2017.
At the start of the 2018-19 season, Lang signed a new two-year contract with Latics and headed out on loan to Oldham Athletic where he scored 16 goals in 50 appearances.
Lang spent the 2019-20 season in League One with Shrewsbury Town, before joining Motherwell on loan during the first half of the 2020/21 campaign.
On his first league start for Latics in January 2021, he scored in a 3-3 draw at Rochdale. Lang went on to score nine goals in 24 league appearances as Leam Richardson’s side heroically defied the odds and avoid relegation.
The Latics Academy graduate has started the 2021/22 campaign in the same manner that he finished the last, scoring vital goals against Portsmouth, Cheltenham Town, Bolton Wanderers and Fleetwood Town.
