Wigan Athletic Community Trust are proud to announce that Brenda Spencer has been elected as the Trust’s new Chair of Trustees.

Brenda will bring a wealth of expertise to her new position, having spent over 40 years associated with Wigan Athletic, including 15 years as the club's CEO (1995–2010).

Alongside her association with the football club, Brenda has consistently been a strong supporter of Wigan Athletic Community Trust, focusing on ensuring the Trust maintains a strong presence and impact in the local community.

Brenda was involved in the creation of Wigan Athletic in the Community, which would later become Wigan Athletic Community Trust in July 2005, and initially served as a Trustee until March 2017.

Since returning to Wigan Athletic as a Non-Executive Director in 2025, Brenda rejoined the Board of Trustees in February, further strengthening the already strong bond between Wigan Athletic Community Trust and Wigan Athletic, with the Trust’s Board of Trustees also including the club’s Managing Director, Sarah Guilfoyle and Richard Bramwell, the Group Finance Director for the Wigan Sports Group.

Brenda’s experience at both Wigan Athletic and Wigan Athletic Community Trust aligns with the Trust’s objectives of working closely with Wigan Athletic towards equality in health, life chances and communities.

Speaking about her appointment, Brenda said:

“I’m proud to have been elected the new Chair of Trustees at Wigan Athletic Community Trust, and I look forward to continuing to support the already excellent work the Community Trust is delivering across the local community.

“I’m in a position in my life where I am fortunate to be able to dedicate more time to the Community Trust and work closely with the Trust’s hard-working staff as well as explore some new opportunities to work closer together with Wigan Athletic FC, as well as our friends at the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation.”

“Her experience and knowledge mean the Trust is well positioned to continue its growth, strengthening relationships with the local community, increasing commercial partnerships, and supporting the collaboration we have with Wigan Warriors Community Foundation.”
