Wigan Athletic is pleased to confirm that highly-rated midfielder Tobias Brenan has signed a new three-year contract with the Football Club.

Brenan has put pen to paper on a new deal that runs until the summer of 2028, capping off his impressive start to the 2025/26 Sky Bet League One campaign.

The 19-year-old has grown from strength to strength during his time at the Brick Community Stadium, having initially joined the Kingdom Wigan Athletic Academy last summer following a successful trial period.

The former Oxford United U18s captain was a mainstay in Chris Brown's U21s in the 2024/25 Professional Development League season, contributing to a number of goals and assists. Pre-season presented the young midfielder with the opportunity to showcase his talent in the first-team environment, and Brenan simply hasn't looked back since.

Having caught the eye during the Club's warm-weather training camp in sunny Spain, Brenan featured in Latics' pre-season friendlies against Curzon Ashton, Accrington Stanley, Liverpool U21s and Tranmere Rovers, before being rewarded with his professional bow in the 3-1 victory over Northampton Town on the opening day of the season.

His magnificent debut display saw the 19-year-old receive a standing ovation at the Brick Community Stadium, and Brenan has gone on to start a further five times for Ryan Lowe's Latics, stepping up seamlessly to the demands of senior professional football.

It's been a real meteoric rise in such a short space of time for Brenan, who has now committed his long-term future to Wigan Athletic. The new deal reflects the Club's commitment to providing Academy players with a real pathway to the first-team setting, with Brenan following in the footsteps of Sam Tickle, Tom Watson, James Carragher, and Kai Payne, who have all put pen to paper on long-term deals in the last year.

The Club would like to congratulate Tobias on his new contract and looks forward to seeing him continue his growth and contribution in the seasons ahead.
