After becoming Wigan Athletic’s first signing of the January Transfer Window, Josh Robinson expressed his excitement to start the next chapter of his career.
Robinson, 20, has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Brick Community Stadium, having been convinced by First Team Manager Shaun Maloney and Sporting Director Gregor Rioch to become part of the Club's exciting rebuild.
This move to Latics marks a new beginning for Robinson, as he joins the Football Club following almost a decade with Premier League side Arsenal. The Leytonstone-born defender first joined the Gunners at the age of 11 and has impressed immensely throughout his progression in Hale End.
After signing professionally in 2023, Robinson has featured for Arsenal in the Vertu Trophy on three occasions this season, and was memorably named in the matchday squad for the first team's UEFA Champions League clash with French giants PSG.
Having been encouraged by the Club's track record of developing young players, Robinson believes that the Brick Community Stadium is the perfect place for him to now begin the next chapter of his exciting career.
“I am very excited to start my journey here,” Robinson told Latics TV.
“It’s a very big Football Club, and I am looking forward to seeing what the season holds.
“They were interested in me and when you see a big Club like Wigan, you cannot turn that opportunity down.
“He (Shaun Maloney) told me that we play a similar football to what I’ve been used to. The Manager is a good guy and played a big part (in my decision to come here)
“I’ve been at Arsenal for a long time, and coming out of the Academy into a first-team environment is a big step but I feel like I am ready to take it.
“It’s a big decision - but I thought why not take the leap of faith and hopefully everything will go well.
“I am very excited to get going. I just want to hit the ground running, and hopefully do well for the Football Club.”
