On the back of a positive display against promotion-chasing Wrexham AFC, Ryan Lowe is hoping that his Wigan Athletic side can make it a very Good Friday in Shropshire.
Latics start their Easter weekend with a trip to Shrewsbury Town's Croud Meadow on Friday, before welcoming Rotherham United to WN5 on Monday afternoon. Putting as many points on the board as possible is the target for Lowe and his players, who will be determined to finish the season strongly and carry some momentum into the 2025/26 campaign.
While Lowe is still searching for his first victory as Wigan Athletic Head Coach, he has provided players, staff, and supporters alike with a real lift, providing plenty of optimism for what the future holds at the Brick Community Stadium at the start of the Club's new and exciting journey.
Previewing Latics' Good Friday trip, Lowe expressed the importance of his side earning the right to play when facing Shrewsbury Town, who will be playing for their Sky Bet League One future.
“There were some elements that were very good,” he told Latics TV.
“We were solid defensively and I’m asking now for the players at the top end of the pitch to be more ruthless, create more chances, and score more goals.
“It hasn’t been for the lack of trying. Against a team of that ilk, to perform the way we did was a good sign.
“There have been some good signs which I’m really pleased about. It was a good performance against Wrexham and we move on again to Shrewsbury Town.
“It will probably be an even bigger challenge. They’re not going to leave no stone unturned - Michael (Appleton) has gone in at short notice and you can see he’s made a difference already.
“They’ve had a tough season - they are on their third manager which obviously doesn’t help. We’re not going there thinking it’s a given, we’ve got to fight for everything and work hard to get any sort of points.
“That’s my message to the players and everyone associated with the Club - we’ve got to go there with our tails high, and earn the right to play. It’s going to definitely be a tough place to go.”
