Wigan Athletic can confirm that defender Luke Robinson has returned from his loan spell at St Johnstone after recently sustaining a knee injury, which has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

The defender initially made the move to McDiarmid Park in August, and while he was briefly recalled for action to Latics in January, he soon returned to Perth to continue his development in the Scottish Premiership.

Following the conclusion of his loan spell, Luke, who represented Scotland at under-21 level and made 33 appearances for the Saints, said: “I am gutted to miss the last few games this season, and I would love nothing more than to help the lads in the games that remain on the pitch."

“But that’s football, and I’ll be watching with every confidence that the team can finish the season strongly.”

Reflecting on his loan experience at McDiarmid Park, Luke continued: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time. I lived up in Perth all season, and although there have certainly been ups and downs, I can say I loved being a part of it.

“The experiences will stand me in good stead coming back to Wigan. I have matured as both a player and person since being with St Johnstone, and I have learnt a lot about myself during my stay, learning some valuable lessons.

“I appreciate what St Johnstone has done for me at this point in my career, and I wish everyone the best for the future.”
