Shaun Maloney believes his side’s intense warm-weather training camp in Hungary will provide them with solid foundations to build from.

Latics have spent the last seven days at the Hungarian Federation Training Centre, being hard at work as they look to attack the 2024/25 Sky Bet League One campaign.

The Club is determined to build on the success of last season, and Maloney feels their week stay in Budapest will be key moving forward in the development of his young squad.

“It has everything I want and everything we needed for the week,” he told Latics TV.

“With the rooms being on-site, the ability to walk from your room onto the pitch and to the gym is difficult to find. I like the facilities- the gym and pool are excellent and so are the pitches. I really like coming here.

“It’s been difficult. Yesterday in particular was extremely hard for the players, but within that, there are different sessions where we can do more tactical work. We can spend a lot of time on the pitch. There are no time or weather constraints which has been a big positive.

“It’s been hard for the players, but we need to build a certain base and get better at things. We want to be more aggressive but to do that is not easy, and that’s what we have to work on.”

In an in-depth interview, Maloney also discusses the arrivals of Tom Huddlestone and Shadab Iftikhar, the Club’s summer recruitment, and Latics’ upcoming pre-season friendlies.
