  • Kelman: "It's an amazing feeling. Everyone knows what Wigan Athletic are about, and I feel very privileged to be here."

Charlie Kelman expressed he felt privileged to sign for a Football Club of Wigan Athletic's stature after he joined on loan from Queens Park Rangers until the end of the 2023/24 campaign

Kelman, 22, became Latics' third signing of the January Transfer Window after being persuaded to join the Football Club by the Gaffer Shaun Maloney, Sporting Director Gregor Rioch and his former teammate at Southend United Stephen Humphrys.

Having experienced the atmosphere at the DW Stadium with Southend in Latics' 2017/18 title-winning campaign, Kelman is excited to play in front of the Latics faithful and hopes he can contribute as much as possible during his loan spell.

“It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve played here in front of these fans, and it’s a massive, massive Club," he told Latics TV.

“Everyone knows what Wigan Athletic are about, and I feel very privileged to be here and I can’t wait to get going.

“The stature of the Club (played a big part), and I’ve got Stephen Humphrys here. I spoke to him and he’s thoroughly enjoyed it here.

“He said it’s an amazing place and that the Gaffer plays some good stuff. When I spoke to him, it was a no-brainer to get up here as quickly as possible and get this deal done."

Despite still being in the infancy of his professional career, Kelman has over a century of EFL appearances to his name in all three of the divisions. The 22-year-old expressed the importance of continuing his professional development during his time at the DW Stadium and learning from Maloney and his coaching staff.

"I just want to get out there and get back to enjoying football. The Gaffer loves to play football, and it’s hard not to. He knows everything in and around the game, and it will be good to learn and keep on developing.

“I’m hard-working, energetic and someone who is willing to learn and keep on developing. I also put the team first which is the biggest thing. There is no I in team and it’s about being part of something and going some places.

“I'm fully focused on Wigan Athletic. I can’t wait to get going, score a few goals and thoroughly enjoy my time here."
