  • Goode: "I am delighted. I'm here to play games and help the Club push up the league."

After signing on loan from Brentford FC until the end of the 2023/24 campaign, Charlie Goode revealed his determination to help Wigan Athletic climb up the Sky Bet League One table.

Goode, who has amassed over a century of appearances in the Premier League and English Football League, became the Club's second recruit of the January Transfer Window after joining  for the remainder of the season.

The 28-year-old is relishing the opportunity to play regular football at the DW Stadium, and wants to aid the Tics in their bid to ascend up the league table in the coming months

“I am delighted. It’s a move that worked for everyone, and I’m here to play games and help the Club push up the league," he told Latics TV.

“I had some good conversations with the Manager, and I am looking forward to getting going.

“I’ve been in dialogue with the Manager for a while, and he very much made me buy into what he wants to do. I’m here to play games and I feel like I can be a presence at the back."

Goode adds real leadership to the Latics backline, having previously captained Northampton Town to Sky Bet League Two Play-Off success in 2020. The towering central defender is hoping his EFL experience will be invaluable to Shaun Maloney's young squad between now and the end of the season.

“I’ve been a captain before, and I like the responsibility on my shoulders. I know it’s a young side, so hopefully I can add some more experience at the back to help them.

“I’m a centre half, and I will leave everything out there. I like to lead the team, and I’m an aggressive defender.

“At the end of the day, I want to win, so I’ll do whatever it takes.”
