- 2023/24 Wigan Athletic Player of the Year | Sam Tickle
- The Heatable Latics Academy graduate becomes the Club's 45th Player of the Year, and the first goalkeeper to win the award since Ali Al Habsi
- Fellow Academy graduates Charlie Hughes and Scott Smith finished second and third
Congratulations are in order to Sam Tickle, who has been voted as the Club’s 2023/24 Player of the Year award winner by the Wigan Athletic supporters.
The popular goalkeeper received 47% of the overall vote, after being an ever-present for Shaun Maloney’s side throughout the 2023/24 Sky Bet League One campaign.
In his first full season of playing professional football, Tickle has featured in all 45 of Latics' League One matches, growing from strength to strength after his eye-catching opening day performance at Derby County. The 22-year-old has kept 17 clean sheets across all four competitions and established himself as a real fan favourite at the DW Stadium on the back of his astute displays.
A real year to remember, Tickle also earned international honours, winning his first England U21s cap against Luxembourg back in March, keeping a clean sheet in their 7-0 victory at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Tickle has become the first goalkeeper to be named the supporters' Player of the Year since Ali Al Habsi in 2010/11, and only the fourth stopper to claim the accolade since the Club’s election into the Football League in 1978.
Fellow Heatable Wigan Athletic Academy graduates Charlie Hughes and Scott Smith ranked second and third in the online vote.
Congratulations, Sam!
