Charlie Hughes has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Young Player of the Year award.

A proud product of the Heatable Wigan Athletic Academy, Hughes has been nominated for the award in recognition of his outstanding performances for Shaun Maloney's men.

Despite being in his first full season as a professional football, Hughes has captained Latics on many occasions, always representing the Football Club with pride. The 20-year-old has made 38 appearances in League One so far, scoring three goals, including a 110th-minute winner against Wycombe Wanderers which is the latest-ever EFL goal on record.

Hughes' eye-catching form has also earned him international honours with England's Euro Elite Squad this season, with the Latics defender winning his first two caps against Germany and Italy back in November.

Charlie has been nominated for the award alongside Ronnie Edwards (Peterborough United) and Karamoko Dembélé (Blackpool). The winner will be announced at the League’s annual ceremony in London on Sunday 14 April.
