Latics Academy graduate recognised for his work with the award-winning Wigan Athletic Community Trust

Charlie Hughes named 22/23 PFA Community Champion
Latics defender has supported the community through school, education programmes and hospital visits

3PL Wigan Athletic Academy graduate Charlie Hughes has been named the Club’s PFA Community Champion for the 2022/23 season in recognition of his support of Wigan Athletic Community Trust.

In his breakthrough season on the pitch for Shaun Maloney's men, Hughes has upheld his long-standing support of the Community Trust, showing a fantastic determination and enthusiasm to participate in a number of charitable activities throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

Having worked with the Community Trust during his time as an Academy player, taking part in charitable Christmas donations to The Brick and supporting the Premier League Inspires programme, which aims to raise the aspirations of young people in Secondary Schools, Hughes has continued to work in the Community after breaking into the first team.

The Latics defender’s community work this season has included the following:

Supported students on Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Football and Education programme
Donated a package of books to Orrell Holgate Academy for World Book Day
Joined squad wide Community activities over the Christmas period
