Latics are delighted to confirm that former Liverpool and England striker Rickie Lambert has joined the Club as an 3PL Academy Youth Development Coach.

Having initially joined the club to work on his coaching badges, Lambert has since impressed and has been appointed as a part time coach with our U15s and U16s.

Lambert, 41, was part of the coaching staff for the U16s triumph in the Professional Development League Cup final against Peterborough United and having played at the highest professional level, will now look to pass on his knowledge to our next generation of talent.

Academy Manager Gregor Rioch said: “Having someone of Rickie’s quality in and around our Academy here at Wigan Athletic can only be a massive aid to our youngsters.

“I actually played alongside Rick at Macclesfield. I have known him a long time and I know what a good person he is. He is a very ambitious and hardworking man and has obviously played at the highest level and is an ex-international.

“To have him with us is a huge benefit for the Club and he’s already made a big impression on everyone.”
