Wigan Athletic Community Trust is celebrating St. Oswald’s as School of the Week!

School of the Week celebrates the impact of work in schools on students and teachers
The Trust has been delivering the Premier League Primary Stars programme, as well as PE support and teacher CPD

Wigan Athletic Community Trust has named St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School this week’s School of the Week!

Community Trust staff deliver regular sessions at the school, including PE support and teacher CPD, with the aim of helping pupils develop their confidence, physical literacy, and teamwork while staying physically active.

Earlier this year, Trust staff have also helped the children with their sustainability project, in which the pupils researched their own ideas on how to create a more sustainable school, which they then presented in front of a panel of judges at the DW Stadium.

During a visit to the School, St Oswald’s PE Coordinator, Mrs Grindley, said:

“The Children have really grown in confidence and their actual skills that they take into lessons have developed as well.

“Watching them grow throughout the years has been absolutely wonderful to see, starting from reception looking at the very fundamental skills, all the way up to Year 6, where they can put those skills into sessions with team games. It’s been fantastic to see.

“When the teachers go out to the lessons with the children, it’s really helped them to grow in their confidence and their abilities.

“We are very proud to be School of the Week this week.”
