Students from Sharples School get to experience working in the Community Trust and Football Club through work experience placement

Students Zeb and Rayhan from Sharples High School joined the Community Trust last week to experience working in the sports industry.

The pair joined community trust staff on a number of projects, including our Extra Time hubs which tackle loneliness amongst over 55s, our parent support camps for children aged five – 12 years old; and they also had the chance to write a match report from the press box during Latics’ home match against Coventry City.

Their placement gave the students a broad range of experiences, with both of them impressing through their eagerness to learn and enthusiasm to get involved with the activities.

Speaking about their week at the Trust, Zeb said:

“I’ve learnt many things here, such as team building activities, working well under pressure, under deadlines.

“It’s been a really good insight and eye-opener into how a football club works.

“I hope I’m going to work here again.”

Rayhan added:

“Going forward, I would love to do something else with the Community Trust, I’ve been more confident, and I’ve learnt to be good in a team now as well.”

Secondary Schools Manager Joe Rose echoed the sentiments of the two students and was impressed by their hard work over the week:

“They were absolutely brilliant from start to finish. They didn’t shy away from anything at all, they got fully stuck in.

“Work experience is really valuable as students start preparing for the world of work, so hopefully we’ve given them a bit of insight into that.”
