Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Miguel Azeez from Arsenal on a loan deal until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Azeez, 20, is an England youth international who joins up with Kolo Touré’s side, having previously worked with Latics’ Assistant Manager Kevin Betsy at both Arsenal and in the England set-up.

The dynamic midfielder joined the Gunners at the age of five and signed his first professional contract with the Premier League leaders in September 2019. He featured four times for Arsenal U21s in the Papa John’s Trophy, before making his first-team debut in their UEFA Europa League victory at Dundalk.

In order to gain senior experience to help aid his development, Azeez made a move to Portsmouth last term, scoring once in 10 appearances during his first loan spell away from the Emirates Stadium.

After being a regular for Arsenal U23s under Betsy, Azeez has spent the first half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at UD Ibiza, before returning to North London last week.

Azeez, who has been capped a number of times for England U20s, will now link up with Touré’s side for the remainder of the season, hoping to make a positive impact at the DW Stadium.

The midfielder will wear the number 20 shirt during his time at the DW Stadium.
