Wigan Athletic Community Trust name Our Lady’s RC Primary School their School of the Week following the ongoing success of Community Trust-led PE lessons at the School.

The weekly sessions are helping pupils develop their confidence, physical literacy, and teamwork while keeping students physically active.

At the session, Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Assistant Primary Schools Manager, Martin Fitzsimons said:

“It’s really good to come in today and show the School that we appreciate them.

“Here we look at developing the children’s skills across not just physical, but across their social and emotional skills as well.

“The impact the sessions have our huge, you can see the kids turn up on a day-to-day excited to see their coach Beth, they love the sessions that she delivers.

Our Lady’s RC Primary School’s PE lead, Miss Postlethwaite added:

“When they are assessing the children in PE it’s not just looking for skills but also their sportsmanship qualities, I think for the children that aren’t necessarily the greatest footballers or tennis players, they still get their opportunity to be rewarded and shine, which for me as PE lead is a real bonus.

“There are a lot of Wigan Athletic supporters in the school, so it means a lot for them to get the opportunity to go and see a match.”
