Latics host annual Community Day during 1-0 win over QPR

Over 2000 Community Trust accepted free tickets to watch Latics 1-0 win

During Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship 1-0 win over QPR, Latics held their annual community-dedicated fixture to celebrate the work of Wigan Athletic Community Trust.

Latics official charity, Wigan Athletic Community Trust works with over 11,000 participants a year towards equality in health, life chances and community across the areas of Community Development, Schools and Training and Skills.

Named the #BelieveInCommunities day, Community Trust staff were running activities around the DW Stadium throughout the day, with over 2000 participants attending the fixture from a number of Community Trust programmes.

The day featured tournaments for the Trust’s #PLKicks participants and Adult Health participants, as well as friendly fixtures for the #PLKicks disability team and Wigan Walkers.

Alongside the tournaments, performances from the PL Kicks dance teams and Extra Time Choir were taking place before the match, with staff on hand to run fun games and activities to let Latics fans learn more about the work of the award-winning Community Trust.

Staff also celebrated the legacy of late Head of Community, Tom Flower, with the renaming of the Community Trust’s office to the ‘Tom Flower Offices’ taking place pre-match and a plaque being unveiled in memory of him.
