School Sports Coordinator Nick Blackledge named Wigan Athletic PL Community Captain to mark the 30^th anniversary of the Premier League

Wigan Athletic celebrate 30^th anniversary of the Premier League by naming Nick Blackledge as Community Captain

Nick was named Community Captain having progressed through the Trust from starting on our education programmes, becoming an apprentice before becoming a full-time employee

Nick Blackledge has been named Wigan Athletic Community Captain in recognition of his work and commitment to Schools across the Wigan Borough.

The Community Captain accolade is being given to more than 100 members of the public who have made an outstanding contribution to their club and local community, as part of the Premier League’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Nick received the accolade at our after-school club at St Andrews, receiving a PL30 Community Captain armband and pennant.

Having been at the Wigan Athletic Community Trust for over 8 years, Nick began his journey on our Football and Education programme. After completing the programme Nick progressed into an apprenticeship followed by a part-time job and is now a full-time School Sports Coordinator. Having also completed a PGCE and USW Community Football Coaching and Administration Degree during his time at the Trust.

Nick has worked on the #PLPrimaryStars and the #PLKicks programmes, amongst others, to improve the health and help enhance the physical literacy of students across our partner schools.

Having seen Nick’s journey from the very beginning, Head of Community Tom Flower said: “We’re very proud to present this award to Nick today. Nick has been a valued member of our staff for over eight years and highlights the pathways of progression here at the Community Trust.

“Having recently won the ‘One Team’ award at our staff update. Nick embodies our values at Wigan Athletic and is a strong supporter of our programmes and his fellow members of staff.”
