This week’s School of the Week Celebrates the success of the Premier League Primary Stars, and Teacher CPD Programme run by the Community Trust

Wigan Athletic Community Trust name St Jude’s Catholic Primary School, School of the Week, following the ongoing success of Community Trust-led sessions at the School.

At the school, Wigan Athletic Community Trust has been delivering extracurricular activities, PE Support and Premier League Primary Stars with a blend of PE lessons for students and CPD for teachers.

The sessions are helping pupils develop key physical skills, and create a positive relationship with physical activity, while also empowering teachers at the school to take an active role and improve the delivery of their own PE lessons.

Pupils from the school have also been invited to Latics’ upcoming Sky Bet Championship against Blackpool at the DW Stadium this Saturday.

Greg Hardman, Wigan Athletic Community Trust Primary Schools Manager said “In quite a lot of the schools we work [in], we deliver Premier League Primary Stars and we deliver PE support. This is quite a unique school, that we deliver both of those projects in the school.

“So the children and the teachers get a really good coverage of not only high-quality PE, but also for the teachers to get that really good support.”

These sentiments were echoed by St Jude’s PE Coordinator Rachel Cregan who added “It’s had a brilliant impact. Staff are already saying how much more confident they feel in teaching PE. The children are so excited to come to the game. It’s nice to have that community link.”
