Year 8 Pupils from Up Holland High School have been crowned as winners of Wigan Athletic’s virtual Premier League Inspires Challenge.

As part of the challenge, which was hosted by Wigan Athletic Community Trust, pupils from Up Holland High School and St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School presented virtually to a judging panel on social action ideas around making the DW Stadium more environmentally friendly.

Judges on the panel including Wigan Athletic scholars Charlie Hughes and Joe Adams and the Academy’s Head of Welfare and Education, Mike Hurn.

Following the event Charlie revealed how impressed he was with efforts of the pupils to present their ideas.

“All five groups from the two schools had some great ideas and showed real resilience to get involved and make their ideas better”, he said.

“It’s great for them to come out of school and have the chance to focus on real life skills and think outside the box.

“It was a great experience for Joe and I to come in and judge on the schools. We showed respect to all the groups as it's tough to get up, speak and share ideas.

“Credit to them for working on their ideas and presenting to us on how to make the environment and community better.”
