Teams representing Latics, Everton and Manchester United came together to raise awareness about knife crime and staying safe in the Community

40 Students took part in the Safer Communities Tournament
The players took part in a Knife Crime Workshop with the JJ Effect and some friendly football matches

Wigan Athletic Community Trust, Everton in the Community and the Manchester United Foundation this week came together for a Safer Communities Event

The students from different #PLInspires programmes across the region took part in an eye-opening knife crime workshop led by Byron from the JJ effect. Byron spoke about his own experiences and passed on some excellent life advice to the students.

The tournament was a part of the #PLInspires programme and brought together the three organisations to raise awareness about keeping the Community Safe.

After the workshop, the students also took part in some friendly football matches as a reward for their participation in the workshop.

The event was organised by Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Secondary Schools Manager Joe Rose, who said, “The purpose of today was to raise awareness of knife crime, which obviously is a serious problem in the North West. It’s really, really important that were targeting young boys, in particular at this early age, in order to get that early intervention.

It’s been fantastic to share our practice and bring like-minded students together, and overall, have a fantastic day.”
