A superb performance from Wigan Athletic’s U18s saw them beat Queens Park Rangers 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Heston Training Ground.
Goals from Ruben Grewal, Adam Brooks, Levi Welsh, and Kyle Worsley emphasised the dominant display in the capital.
After making an encouraging start in the Professional Development League clash, Kieran Driscoll’s side opened the scoring through Grewal in the 29th minute. Worsley showed excellent work rate and endeavor to chase down Tom Watson's long ball and beat the defender, before unselfishly squaring the ball to Grewal to tap home.
Latics doubled their advantage seven minutes later when Grewal produced a fine piece of skill to backheel the ball to the overlapping Jack Reilly on the right, with the latter sending in a dangerous cross to the far post for Brooks to finish.
Driscoll’s side added a third just before the hour mark when Welsh dispossessed a short pass and slotted a sublime right-footed finish into the far corner from just inside the area.
Latics completed the scoring in the 62nd minute as Worsley grabbed the goal that his hard-working performance deserved. Welsh was sent racing through on goal by Brooks, before putting the ball on a plate for Worsley to turn home from close range.
In an extremely productive afternoon at the Heston Training Ground, Latics were able to see the game out to leave the capital with all three points in the Professional Development League.
Latics will next host Cardiff City U18s at Christopher Park on Saturday 11 September, looking to build on their clinical performance against QPR U18s.
