Wigan Athletic Community Trust are hosting their Remembrance Cup before Latics’ FA Cup clash with Solihull Moors on Saturday 6th November.

The free five-a-side tournament is being held in celebration of Armistice Day at Robin Park Arena between 1pm-3pm.

Entry for the competition is free with all players required to be 18 and over to take part.

The club’s official charity currently provides a range of programmes to support the local armed forces community through both its Football 4 Forces and Training 4 Forces projects.

Aimed at current and former armed personnel, Football 4 Forces improves the health and wellbeing of participants with weekly football sessions, whilst also helping them feel less socially isolated.

Taking place at Robin Park every Monday evening (6pm-7pm), sessions also provide the opportunity to attend lifestyle workshops, complete coaching qualifications and take part in competitive fixtures against other North West clubs.

Through its Training 4 Forces programme, ex-servicemen and women are also provided with necessary training and skills to bring them closer to employment.

To sign up for the Remembrance Cup or for more information on Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s work with the local armed forces community, please contact Ian Gaskell by emailing i.gaskell@wiganathletic.com or calling 01942 318090.
