Latics will face a trip to Accrington Stanley in Round Two of the Papa John's Trophy in the week commencing 29 November 2021.

Following victory in their final group stage fixture against Shrewsbury Town on Wednesday night, Latics secured their place in Saturday's draw as runners-up from Group C.

As runners-up, Latics were in Draw B of the Northern Section, which meant Latics would be drawn away at one of Rotherham United, Sunderland, Accrington Stanley or Sheffield Wednesday.
