Proctor: “With the current form and the belief in the dressing room we expect to win the game, especially when you take the lead in the second half. I think we expected to go on and get a second goal, see it out and get the three points but ultimately, we didn’t do that.”

Latics striker Jamie Proctor admitted his side felt disappointed with the result as they were held to a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to Latics TV post-match, Proctor – who opened the scoring – said Latics will remain positive, though, as their unbeaten run extends to three matches.

“We’re disappointed and obviously want to win every game and expect to win going into games regardless of where we are in the league,” he said. “With the current form and the belief in the dressing room we expect to win the game especially when you take the lead in the second half. I think we expected to go on and get a second goal, see it out and get the three points but ultimately, we didn’t do that.

“On reflection I think it was a fair result; in the first half we weren’t at it as well as we have been over the past few weeks but we extend the unbeaten run to three games which I don’t think we have done that much this season. We have to take the positives, stay upbeat and keep moving forward and move up the table.

“All we can keep doing is looking after ourselves; the teams around us are picking up results as well and going on good runs. But we can’t worry about them and have to look at ourselves and what we have inside of our dressing room – players, staff, just everyone needs to come together. I think moving forward, game by game, week by week if we do that and produce results then we’ll be alright.”

Proctor opened the scoring for Latics just before the hour mark after a quiet first-half for both sides and the frontman says Latics will need to keep displaying fight to ensure they stay in the division.

“It’s frustrating with some parts in the first half where you’re fighting and grafting away but when you’re up against big, physical sides then that’s what you’re expecting,” Proctor explained. “We are where we are and everyone needs to fight. I think if we do that then the chances will come.

“They were few and far today so when they do come we have to take them. [My goal] was a nice move and a neat bit of play from Dan [Gardner] and then I’ve finished it to give us the lead. It’s disappointing in the end but if we can continue with the fight and spirit then we’ll be alright.”
