After impressing throughout his progression, Smith proudly signed his first professional contract with the Club ahead of the 2019-20 season.
Smith, who has represented Wales at youth level on a number of occasions, is a tough-tackling central midfielder who has exemplary leadership qualities, and has recently been the captain of the Club's U23s.
Smith was a regular in the Latics U23 starting XI during the 2020-21 campaign, and was highly influential in the engine room, in addition to filling in at right-back when required.
Speaking about Smith, Academy Manager, Gregor Rioch said:
“Scott is a local lad who has progressed and improved year on year since I first joined the Club, when he was just 13 years old.
“It’s exciting to see Scott extend his contract and he’ll be looking to try and break into the first-team squad.
“We’re looking forward to progressing his career with the Club."
