“All of the loans I have been on I have played in different positions; early on at Morecambe, I played in behind the strikers, at Shrewsbury I started as a striker and then moved more to a winger, at Oldham I spent the season on the wing really and then at Motherwell I have played as both a striker and a winger.

“I think I can play anywhere along the three behind a striker or as the striker; I have learned a lot from playing in different positions. I enjoy playing any of the attacking positions and I back myself to do well in any of them; I am a hard-working player; I like to cover distance on the pitch and fight for every ball.”

Lang will now look to build a partnership with fellow academy graduate Kyle Joseph, who scored his first professional hat-trick in Latics’ 4-3 win at Burton Albion in the final match of 2021.

And the forward says he would love to form a partnership with the Scotland U19 international.

“I have spoken with Kyle,” Lang added. “He’s a good lad, he’s similar to me with his work rate and the way he wants to work for the team, hopefully we can add goals.

“I watched his hat-trick back; his second goal was absolutely class so it will be nice to form a good partnership with him.

“I think the supporters would be happy to see lots of academy graduates do well; I have had lots of messages on social media and it’s been amazing to see how the supporters have stuck with the team.

“It’s a family environment at the minute and I am looking forward to getting back playing with the lads.”

On the opportunity that now presents itself, Lang said it will mean a lot to him to pull on the Wigan Athletic shirt and get a run of games in the first team at the DW Stadium.

“I’ll be aiming for 50 career goals as soon as possible now I’m back at Wigan [currently 34],” Lang continued. “Putting the shirt back on will mean a lot for me having come to the club at such a young age after being released by other clubs.

“Wigan gave me an opportunity and since the day I signed I have wanted to force myself into this team.

“I have a good opportunity now, it means a lot and it will be a nice feeling putting the shirt on and even better when I score my first goal. Sadly, I don’t think the fans will be there but I have had a lot of messages from the supporters, I know they’re behind me and I want to give something back now.”
