Three goals in four second half minutes saw Latics U18s complete a remarkable comeback against Hull City at Christopher Park on Saturday afternoon.

Latics went 2-0 down with goals either side of half time from the visitors, but strikes from Millen Brown, Tom Costello and Sean McGurk ensured Latics’ unbeaten run this season continued.

Despite a strong start to the game Latics found themselves a goal down at the break after Harvey Carew converted from close range after good work down the left from Henry Curtis.

The hosts had Charlie Hughes to thank moments before the break with the defender doing brilliantly to clear Will Jarvis’ effort off the line.

In search of a way back in the game, McGurk was introduced at the break but it was the Tigers who doubled their lead on the hour – Jarvis volleying past Owen Mooney from close range.

Latics continued to create chances as Levi Walsh dragged his effort wide when through on goal and Chris Sze was expertly denied by a fine save from Harry Fisk.

Fisk could do very little with Latics’ next shot as Millen Brown started the host’s fightback, brilliantly curling into the top corner from the edge of the box.

One was soon two as second half substitute, Costello, raced clear of the Tigers’ defence to coolly slot home and draw the game level and net his tenth goal of the season.

The comeback was then complete only two minutes later as McGurk’s curling corner evaded everyone to nestle into the far corner, sending the Latics’ bench into wild celebrations.

Mooney then made a late save from Josh Hinds who had made space to fire low from the edge of the box, but Latics held on to make it 12 unbeaten in the U18 Professional Development League North.
