Defender determined to make an impact after completing loan move from Plymouth Argyle.

Wigan Athletic’s latest signing – defender Scott Wootton – says he is delighted to be at the DW Stadium after he completed a loan move from Plymouth Argyle.

Wootton has been a target for Leam Richardson and his staff throughout January and the former Manchester United defender is delighted to be linking up with his new teammates for the second-half of the season.

“I’m delighted and made up to be here finally,” Wootton said. “I can’t wait to get started and get going on the pitch. I met the lads and staff today and they seem a great bunch.

“The motivation for me is to keep the club in the league and get that sorted as fast as possible and see how far we can climb up the league. I believe in the squad we have now and there have been some good additions in the last few weeks.

“The club had a tough start to the league and a lot of uncertainty around the place. I’m good friends with Tom Pearce and Will Keane who I spoke to a lot through this month and they spoke really highly of the players and the staff here and what a great environment it is to be around. That made me want to come even more and I am just made up to be here.

Wootton also added he will look to bring leadership and experience to Latics’ defence, having joined up at an important part of the campaign.

“I’m a voice on the pitch, I lead and organise the team,” he said. “I’m an experienced player now so I feel that I can bring that to the team.

“First and foremost, I’m there to defend and keep clean sheets and I also feel I have a good ability on the ball as well. That’s a style that Wigan have played for many years so I feel that my game will suit the team and suit the club.

“I feel fit and champing at the bit as I’ve not played for a few weeks now so I’m fit and ready to go and can’t wait to put on that shirt.”
