After a floodlight fire delayed the kick off of the second half, Latics thought they were going to pull themselves out of the Sky Bet League One relegation zone when Callum Lang lashed his side in front, but goals from Sam Winnall and Elliott Moore turned things around for Oxford United, who held out to win 2-1 at the Kassam Stadium.

You got a feeling that the football gods didn't want this one to take place, with the 24-hour delay turned into a 25-hour delay as the Oxford grounds staff tried to thaw out the pitch, and that's before the floodlight mishap at the interval!

The first half passed with relatively few incidents for Latics, but it was a solid enough performance to give Leam Richardson's unchanged side confidence going into the second period, a second period that took an hour to come around, after the stadium was evacuated due to a fire.

With everyone safe, the fire extinguished and the floodlights checked, Latics restarted in style when Lang blasted his side in front 11 minutes into the second half.

The striker grabbed his third goal for Latics in typical centre forward style, battling off his marker on the turn, before thumping his right footed effort past the keeper for 1-0.

Latics were on course to climb out of the drop zone with a win, but they came unstuck by two deliveries into the box.

The first came from Brandon Barker, allowing Winnall to head home relatively unchallenged, with Oxford's winner from Moore even tougher to take.

Moore was sandwiched between Latics defenders Curtis Tilt and Scott Wootton, but somehow managed to battle free, before prodding home from close range, clinching the result for Oxford with seven minutes remaining.
