Wigan Athletic will continue to monitor midfielder Chris Merrie after he was replaced at half-time during Saturday's League One defeat to Lincoln City.

Merrie picked up a hamstring injury that Leam Richardson said would have to be assessed over the next 48 hours, following Saturday's game.

Kyle Joseph and Tom Pearce are longer-term absentees for Latics, who welcomed Gavin Massey back to action from the bench at the weekend after three months out.

Unfortunately, midfielder Lee Evans has suffered a slight setback in his return to action, with Richardson confirming to the media it will be 'two to three weeks' before the Welsh midfielder is available for selection

Bristol Rovers appointed Joey Barton as their new manager on Monday and the former Fleetwood Town boss - who has already come up against Latics on two occasions this season - looks set to take charge of his first match as manager against Latics.

Max Ehmer (shoulder) missed Saturday's visit to his former club Gillingham, with caretaker manager Tommy Widdrington suggesting he would need to be assessed before the trip to Kent.
