#BELIEVE FansFund Founders have already contributed significantly to first team operations through the purchase and installation of Ice Baths to aid the recovery of the first team within a hectic fixture programme.
Saturday’s Sky Bet League One win at Plymouth Argyle was Latics’ 17th match since the start of September, with the draw at Cambridge United in midweek also beginning a run of six matches in 18 days.
Given the volume of fixtures, Latics’ Sports Science department have been putting plans in place with the coaching staff to enhance recovery and give the players the best opportunity to be able to manage the demands of the league season, combined with fixtures in both the Emirates FA Cup and Papa John’s Trophy.
The #BELIEVE FansFund directly supports the Football Operations, with supporters choosing which area their funds go towards between the Academy, Sports Science and First Team Operations.
Over 1,200 Latics supporters have now signed-up, taking their place in history as a Founding Member of the #BELIEVE FansFund.
Wigan Athletic’s Head of Sports Science, Jimmy Barrow, said the installation of the Ice Baths at Christopher Park will significantly enhance the players’ ability to recover between fixtures.

Having the Ice Baths in place enables the team to recover properly and that could well be the difference – we’ve seen in recent weeks how the team has shown the character and energy to keep going until the 95th minute.

“With the league and cup fixture programmes, we are set to continue a run of matches being played every three-and-a-half days during the winter.
“Having the Ice Baths in place enables the team to recover properly and that could well be the difference – we’ve seen in recent weeks how the team has shown the character and energy to keep going until the 95th minute.
“The manager and staff are really detailed in their approach and place significant emphasis on the players’ data in training and matches. “As a staff, we’re always looking to improve the way we operate to enhance performance, and the contributions from the FansFund will only help us to continue making progress beyond our initial budget and the support from the owners.”
