Wigan Athletic forward Thelo Aasgaard says he was proud of an excellent team performance as Latics beat Doncaster Rovers 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Reflecting post-match with Latics TV, Aasgaard said:

“It's a huge performance for us in the circumstances that we are in. Credit to the lads, we’ve been working so hard in training on shape work and on tactics. I’m so proud of the lads.

“It's been frustrating when you’re putting such good performance in but not quite getting the results and not putting the ball in the back of the net. But it shows the persistence that this team has. We’ll never give up and we’ll fight until the end.”

Aasgaard’s third goal of the season put Latics 2-0 in front at the Keepmoat and he spoke positively again about the experience he is being afforded this season.

“Just came down from a corner didn’t it?,” Aasgaard said of his goal. “We all have our jobs on set pieces, so luckily it fell to me and I was able to put it in the back of the net.

“It’s been an unbelievable experience stepping up from last year I’m embracing every minute of it. I’m having to pinch myself sometimes to remind myself I am where I am. I’ve just got to keep my head down and keep working hard.”

Latics host Sunderland on Tuesday night (kick-off 6pm) and Aasgaard says it’s another important fixture for Leam Richardson’s side.

“I can’t wait for Tuesday,” he said. “It’ll be a huge game and every game is a cup final for us now and we need to find them three points and get them points together that will keep us in this league. We’ve got our targets and got our goals, it’s up to us now to execute them now.”
