Jamie Jones spoke of the confidence within the Latics squad after they dug deep to record a 2-1 victory against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday evening.

Reflecting post-match with Latics TV, Jones praised his side for earning their fourth league victory in a row during the business end of the campaign.

"If you look what we have done in the last four games and since January we're playing great football and we deserve to be winning games." he said.

"Sometimes we haven't had the rub of the green where we've got beat 1-0 on a few occasions where we didn't deserve it.

"We are turning our performances into results at a key part of the season.

"The win is huge for us. We went in thinking we would be a few more points clear but it's not meant to be this week, but all we are concentrating on ourselves and we're going into each game looking after ourselves, not worried about the results elsewhere.

"With any team in the league, we're playing Burton at the weekend, but if it was Hull this Saturday, we're confident going into the game thinking we can get a result, especially with how we're playing.

"We are really strong, and we believe in each other."

Leam Richardson's side had their captain to thank on their way to claiming three points in Shropshire, as Jones helped keep Shrewsbury at bay with a string of outstanding saves at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

On his last-gasp save to deny Charlie Caton, he added:

"It's a save that I'm there to do, and there to make. When the defence lets us down sometimes, we have to be there to help everyone out and tonight's been one of those nights where I've helped them out in that perspective.

"They've been great all season. If you look at Saturday, I didn't even have a save to make, and then you come to this game and they played brilliant."

While Latics are in a favourable position to stay up in League One ahead of the final three matches of the season, Jones has insisted that the criteria has not changed as the job is not finished yet.

"It's the same message that we've had last week as well. You need to get points on the board regardless, we will keep going and we will be doing our jobs until the end of the season, and see where that takes us. We are confident and we are doing well and hopefully the results can continue."
