The central defender sets out his plan for his time at Latics.
Cameron signed for the club on a short-term contract ahead of the Gillingham game.

Speaking to Latics TV at Christopher Park after joining the club on a short-term contract, experienced central defender Nathan Cameron shared his delight at being part of John Sheridan's squad.

"I'm really happy to be here and get going again. It's been a long lay-off for me with lockdown, and League One and League Two shutting down it means I haven't played a league game since March, but now I'm ready and raring to go."

The 28-year-old has been training with the squad to maintain his fitness and featured in Latics' 1-0 victory against AFC Fylde at the start of the month. He added:

"I've been training with the boys for a while and there are some top quality players here, with a few left from the Championship. I actually believe we can push for promotion again and hopefully I can be part of that."

Cameron came through the ranks at Coventry City, where he worked under Latics' Head of Academy, Gregor Rioch. He also worked with Latics' Head of Performance and First Team Physiotherapist, Nick Meace during their time at Bury together.

"I know Nick Meace from my time at Bury and Gregor Rioch was my academy manager at Coventry. Greg brought me through into the first team at Coventry. I know them both really well and they've helped me through the process here.

"We had some terrific players come through when I was at Coventry, our youth team was very good. We had Callum Wilson, Jordan Clarke and Cyrus Christie, some real success under Greg, so I'm happy to link up with him again."

During Latics' 2015-16 League One title-winning season, Cameron was one of very few players to actually get the better of Gary Caldwell's side, scoring twice against us, once in the 2-2 draw at Gigg Lane, as well as in Bury's 4-0 FA Cup victory at the same venue. Despite those successes, Cameron said it's Latics' supporters who stuck in his mind most from those matches.

"The fans were very good the day we drew 2-2 at Gigg Lane. They've always been very good when I've played against the club, they're top quality and I'm happy I'll get the chance to put on the Wigan shirt for them.

"I'm buzzing to be back playing in League One. No matter what's going on behind the scenes, it's always going to be a big club, so I'm privileged to play for Wigan, whether that's for the short-term or the longer term."
