Matty Palmer delighted to link up with John Sheridan again.
Midfielder ready to go for Tuesday's clash with Peterborough United.
Palmer heard good things about Latics from former chairman, David Sharpe.

Speaking to Latics TV at Christopher Park after his first training session with his new team mates on Monday morning, transfer deadline day signing Matty Palmer said he'd know about the club's interest in his services for a while and is relishing the prospect of linking up with John Sheridan for a second time.

"I'm delighted to be here. It's been four or five weeks since I found out about the interest," Palmer began.

"As soon as I knew about it I wanted to come here because Wigan's a very good club and every time the club has been in League One it's been right up there challenging for promotion.

"I know the manager, I played for him at Oldham. I probably played some of my best football with him as my manager, so as soon as I heard he wanted me, I wanted to join straight away.

"He knows exactly what type of player I am and I know how he works as a manager and what he wants from me. I'm here to work hard and perform week in, week out for the gaffer, my team mates and the club.

"I like to get on the ball and dictate the play, as well as chipping in with some goals and assists."

Before making the move to the DW Stadium, Palmer said he was told many good things from the club's former chairman, David Sharpe, who represented the midfielder before taking up his position at Mansfield Town.

"He's only got good things to say about this club. I spoke to him when I was first linked with coming here - not that he needed to change my mind, because I wanted to come here straight away, but he had a lot of good things to say.

"He looked after me as a player for a time, he's a good guy."

With Latics' Sky Bet League One fixture against Peterborough United just around the corner on Tuesday evening, Palmer said he's raring to go and keen to make a good impression.

"It's up to me to work hard on the training pitch and wait for my chance - as soon as I get given that chance, I've got to take it and keep myself in the team.

"I'd take another goal like that. Any goal is a good goal and I'd like to chip in with as many as possible to help the team.

"Physically I'm fine and ready to go - I can't wait for the first game tomorrow night."
