John Sheridan on reacting to the defeat at Crewe...

"We don't want to lose games, nobody does, but the hardest part for me and the other staff was how we went about our game.

"I didn't see the way we played coming at all. Leading up to last week we looked really sharp in training and I was really looking forward to the game, so to go out and perform like we did was disappointing. We didn't merit anything from the game in our performance.

"We will lose games, that's just the nature of the beast, but it's the manner of the defeat which was the most disappointing.

"Too many people had an off day and we'll aim to rectify that against Charlton. It's another really tough game, but we go there with the belief that if we're on our game we can be a hard team to beat."

John Sheridan on adding Curtis Tilt and using Kal Naismith higher up...

"Curtis is a natural defender, he's left-sided and we've been struggling with that since Danny Fox left. I know, Leam knows we're playing Naisy out of position - he can play there, but I like Naisy and I want him to play higher up the pitch where he's more effective.

"Likewise with Lee Evans in midfield, I want him sitting there and dictating the games more. Personnel-wise we want to get a team out whereby everyone feels comfortable in their position.

"Alex Perry and Chris Merrie are two young lads who've come in and done well, but it can catch up with you when you're a young player and you're thrown in at the deep end. They've performed really well so far."

John Sheridan on the importance of Joe Garner...

"He's fully fit. He's back training and he's looking lively. His know-how and his experience of the game is very good and his last goal for us against Doncaster was a very important one.

"He's a big part of the team and he's good with giving information to the other players. We need players like Joe."

John Sheridan on Charlton Athletic...

"On paper they've got a really strong squad. I'm not sure exactly how they'll line up, but they've got a lot of bodies there because Lee Bowyer has brought a lot of decent players in.

"They've got good experience with Ben Watson, Darren Pratley, Chris Gunter and one or two others.

"Preparation and analysis of the opposition is very thorough, it's very impressive the way in which the staff prepare the players.

"We cover every aspect of the opposition, but it's down to our lads and how we're going to perform.

"That's what I want to try and focus on. I know we've got good players, but you have to go onto the pitch switched on and fully focused about your game."

"You have to want to be the best player on the pitch, that's what it's all about and hopefully we can do a lot better than we did last Saturday."
