The forward has scored seven goals in seven games, including the opener in the U23s 2-0 victory against Sunderland.
Nick Chadwick’s side qualified for the last 16 of the Premier League Cup, finishing second in their group.

Wigan Athletic U23 forward Charlie Jolley was delighted to help his team get another victory as Nick Chadwick’s side qualified for the Premier League Cup last 16 on Monday afternoon following their 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Christopher Park.

Jolley put the hosts in front with an emphatic 54^th minute penalty, before Divin Baningime struck ten minutes later to round off a comfortable afternoon for Latics.

Reflecting post-match, Jolley said:

“When we set-out at the start of the group we knew we were coming up against three good teams, so to progress the way we have in a comfortable manner is credit to everyone.

“I’m just glad I could help the team and get three points.

“As a forward, you’ve got to try in score in every game and sometimes the pressure is on you to get the goals, but it was a nice breakthrough.

“I don’t practice penalties, in the moment you just put it where you think. Luckily I did the same against Sunderland away from home, so thankfully I’ve got two out of two this season.”

The forward, who netted his 13^th goal of the season on Monday, reflected on a disappointing defeat against Huddersfield last-time out but praised his team-mates for their hard-work to bounce back with an impressive performance against Sunderland.

“The first-half was frustrating for us; we were breaking them down but didn’t have the quality in the final third. But, chances came and the gaps were created which allowed us to get the penalty and then the second goal, so we were all made up in the end.

“We kind of put Friday’s defeat behind us as a group, it was a blip in form.

“We were all bang at it from the off today and we just wanted to prove to Nick (Chadwick) and the staff that Huddersfield was a one off.”

Jolley looked ahead to Latics' last 16 fixture against AFC Bournemouth (a date and time for this is yet to be confirmed).

“I think we just need to push on from here, hopefully we can kick on against Bournemouth and get into the last eight.

“It’s important we take every game as it comes, but we’ve just got to push on and see how far we can go this season. We’ve got a great group of lads and the team spirit is high, so we’ve just got to see how far this will take us.”
