Latics ended the game with 10 men, but earned a point from 2-1 down.

Speaking on Latics TV following his side's 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, Paul Cook reflected on an eventful 90 minutes at the DW Stadium.

"I'm delighted with the result, the performance and the work ethic from the lads.

"We went 1-0 up and we looked like we had control of the game with good options to come off the bench. Young Joffy and Anthony Pilkington came in to give us a little bit more of a goal spark."

"Unfortunately some very strange decisions within a football game have made the game take a completely different course.

"We tried our best to hit Middlesbrough on our front foot. It was always going to be a tough test for us tonight, but up to the point of certain decisions in the game, we were very much in control of what we were doing. We stopped Middlesbrough from getting into the game, but it all changed in an instant.

"We can't change what's happened in tonight's game, but we just want consistency in games. There wasn't a bad challenge in that game tonight but we saw 10 yellow cards.

"There are certain things we lack and I don't have a problem with that, but honesty, work ethic and desire are a given for this group.

"To go down to 10 men against a good Middlesbrough team and comeback to get a draw, our lads can take great credit from that.

"There's a long way to go in this season with plenty of twists and turns for each team, so we just need to keep focused on what we're doing.

"The fight will always be there with us, no matter which path the season takes."
