Despite no delivery in schools or in community projects, staff from Wigan Athletic Community Trust have been working hard to support those most vulnerable in the community.

Working alongside Wigan Council, coaches are delivering vital emergency food parcels across the week.

Staff have been volunteering to pack Trust vehicles up with donated food to deliver to vulnerable members of our community that might be self-isolating and can’t travel to their local supermarket.

A number of Latics supporters have also been contacted to check they are okay and to see if they need any additional assistance of support, with those calls continuing into next week and beyond.

Tom Flower, Head of Community at Wigan Athletic, said: “Everyone at Wigan Athletic is committed to supporting the community during this difficult period.

“The coronavirus outbreak has presented everyone with a number of different challenges and we hope we can ease the burden on families or individuals who will be struggling over the coming weeks and months.

“While the situation is constantly changing, we hope to be a continuous presence for those most vulnerable in the community.”

Elderly participants across the Trust’s initiatives are also receiving regular contact from coaches, with members of the Extra Time Hub provided with support and exercises to keep them mentally and physically active.

Meanwhile men on the FIT LATICS programme are continuing to engage with the programme and keep active through regular contact with coaches and taking part in suggested exercises.

Staff have also been providing regular Premier League Primary Stars videos and challenges via social media for children of different ages to take part in whilst home schooling.
