Congratulations are in order for Wigan Athletic Under 16 defender Daniel Smith who made his youth international debut for Slovakia's Under 17s last week.

The left back earned his first appearance in a 2-1 victory against Belarus on Monday 26 August, in which he featured for the full first half. Smith also played 52 minutes in a 3-1 defeat to Turkey last Tuesday, before a 32-minute appearance in a 0-0 draw against Lithuania on Thursday.

Daniel was part of Latics' successful Under 15 Premier League Floodlit Cup team in 2018-19, winning the Northern section of the competition, before coming runners-up nationally.

Smith joins a long list of youth international at Latics, with 16 current of former internationals still within the club's ranks, five of which are set for action in the coming week.
