It was a night to remember for 17-year-old Joe Gelhardt in Opole on Friday, with the forward on target twice in England Under 18s' 5-2 victory over Poland's Under 19s.

Gelhardt, who scored his first professional goal for Latics against Hull City in September, was on hand to force England's opening goal, an own goal, before playing his part in the build-up to the Young Lions' second.

He was then fouled for a penalty and scored England's third from the spot, before heading in the fourth goal. Gelhardt, who scored twice for Latics' Under 23s against Liverpool in the Premier League Cup last Sunday, was replaced in the 79th minute.

Latics midfielder Jensen Weir was also involved on the night and was introduced as a 63rd minute substitute.

The pair are in action again on Monday 14 October against Slovakia's Under 19s, before England take on Austria's Under 18s on Wednesday 16 October as part of a friendly fixture tour on the continent.
