Wigan Athletic loan star Reece James has been making headlines with his parent club Chelsea in recent weeks but on Monday night it was another piece of recognition for the England U21 international’s loan spell at the DW Stadium.

The 19-year-old won the vote for the 2018/19 North West Football Awards Championship Player of the Year at Monday night’s event at Emirates Old Trafford, the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club.

James made 45 appearances for Latics and scored three goals in a spectacular campaign in which he won the hearts of Latics’ supporters.

The right back – who also starred in central midfield – is away on England U21 duty so unfortunately couldn’t attend the event in the north-west, but sent the below video to thank fans for voting for him.
