It's a 328-mile round trip from Oxford to the DW Stadium, not something you'd generally consider as a Latics supporter, but for Oxford-based Sam Wooll, it's something he contends with every other weekend to back his club. Why? Well...

"It's for the love of football. I drive up or get the train. Some days it's not easy to get to the matches, like on Bank Holidays for example, but I just set my alarm for a ridiculous time in the morning and get up and get on with it.

"I've met so many good people supporting this club. I recognise everyone when I go to away games, it's just like one big family because we all know each other. The main thing is that I enjoy it and I'm not going to stop doing it any time soon.

"It's one big journey isn't it, there's always something happening. There's never a boring season.

"Yes, we've had relegations, but we've had FA Cup glory and promotions as well."

Other questions you might ask are, 'where did your journey start?' and 'why Latics?'

"A lot of my friends loved football when I was young and I wasn't really interested in football until I was seven-years-old.

"Coming to Wigan was one of the first football matches I attended and ever since then, it's been the team I've followed.

"I've had a season ticket for nine seasons now and I probably get to about 40 games a season across the country."

With the 20th anniversary of the grand opening of the stadium coming up on Sunday 4 August, Sam also recalled his best memories...

"There have been some great memories for me, the Europa League in particular because I made it to every game apart from the one against Rubin Kazan in Russia.

"My favourite memory at the DW Stadium has to be beating Manchester City in the FA Cup, though. It's not easy to progress in the FA Cup when you're a League One side, so to get to the quarter finals was a massive achievement."

And what about his favourite players?

"Henri Camara is one of my favourite players. He had a very good season in our first season in the Premier League, you've got the big names like Emile Heskey as well.

"The Duke and Jason Roberts were an amazing combination up front - I don't think we'll see a partnership like that again."
